Abstract

A lubricant for use in the extrusion of metal tubes comprises a suspension of powdered glass in a volatile medium which boils below the extrusion temperature and which is inept to the metal to be extruded and to the metal of the extrusion press. The lubricant may consist of powdered window glass suspended in water, alcohol or mixtures containing alcohol or other volatile liquids. Crushed clay or gum tragacanth and/or sodium silicate may be added. Specific examples are given of lubricant compositions. Specification 607,285 is referred to.
