Abstract
920,908. Pressure exchangers. POWER JETS (RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT) Ltd. Dec. 20, 1961 [Jan. 20, 1961], No. 2453/61. Class 8(1). The dimensions of each of a plurality of openended rotor cells of a pressure exchanger having ported end plates to control the admission and extraction of gas to and from the cells are such that at the design speed of operation the primary mode of sound osciallations generated is above the upper limit of audiofrequency. For each cell the Following formulae applies Nn/60 # 16000 # a o /1# where N = rotor speed in R.P.M. n = number of cells a 0 = velocity of sound in feet per second 1 = axial length of each cell in feet # = time taken for a cell to open time taken for a wave to traverse cell length. The cell number may be increased by arranging them in concentric rings 20 - - 23 as shown in Fig. 2 with their plane walls 24, 25, 26 in staggered formation. A port indicated by a chain line 27 forms one end of a duct; other ports also being provided. In a modification the walls of concentric rings of cells are in line but the opening and closing edges of the ports are staggered. In the case of a single ring of cells the cell walls 30, Fig. 4, are arcuate and their hooked edges engage slots in cylinders 21, 22.
