Abstract

920,791. Washing- and drying-machines. WHIRLPOOL CORPORATION. June 19, 1961 [Oct. 10, 1960], No. 22142/61. Class 138 (2). [Also in Group XIII] In a combined washing- and spin-drying- machine the drum 17, Fig. 2, has pockets 23a, 23b, 23c supplied by a pump (not shown) with balancing fluid from a sump 16a through an aperture 50 of a fixed nozzle 48. The fluid passes from the nozzle through a slot 53 in a movable deflector 46, Fig. 3, when the slot and nozzle register, into an inlet assembly 32 and a trough-like guide ring 30 secured to the rear wall of the drum and communicating with the pockets through apertures 29. The drum is horizontally mounted for rotary and vibratory movement on a shaft supported at one end in a bearing carried by a horizontal support member 21 capable of horizontal vibratory movement occasioned by the drum, which member is connected between uprights 15a, 15b, the deflector 46 being so pivotally connected to the member 21 that when the vibratory movements of the member exceeds a predetermined value, the member moves the plate out of its normal position of interrupting the liquid flow from the nozzle into the guide ring into a position whereby the slot 53 and opening 50 register.
