Abstract
920,334. Electromagnets. H. KUHNKE. July 3, 1959 [July 11, 1958 ; Nov. 29, 1958], No. 22966/59. Class 35. In an electromagnet having a ball running in inclined grooves for producing rotary motion, the balls and inclined surfaces are situated in the working air-gap. In one form (Fig. 1) the armature 6 is carried on a spindle 7 extending through the core 1, a race comprising steel rings 12, 13 and ball 15 being located in the air-gap between core and armature to convert longitudinal movement of the armature into rotary movement. The steel rings 12, 13 are recessed in armature and core respectively and the ball 15 runs on inclined surfaces 14. The armature rotates in a gap 5 in an outer casing 4. Another modification differs in having a different pattern of ring and running surface (Fig. 2, not shown). In a further modification (Fig. 3) the spindle 29 alone rotates in bearings 27, 28, while the armature 25 is restrained by a spline 37. Axial movement of the armature is converted into rotary motion of a ring 31, secured to the spindle, by a ball 39, running between inclined surfaces 33, 35.
