Abstract

1,253,180. Bearings. ROLLS ROYCE Ltd. 20 Oct., 1970, No. 49675/70. Heading F2A. A rolling bearing assembly comprises a race 16 provided with an annular chamber 28 connected to two oppositely-handed helical ducts or grooves 26, 27 which communicate with the exterior, and means 23 for supplying coolant wherein the coolant is directed axially outwardly from the centre of the chamber across the circumferential non-bearing surface of the race. The coolant is supplied via a duct 13 and a chamber 14 from a hollow rotatable shaft 12 to which the race 16 is secured. The coolant also lubricates the bearing, and is supplied to the bearing surfaces via ducts 21, 22.
