Abstract

919,944. Regulating switches. HARTSOCK, R. E. June 28, 1961, No. 23425/61. Class 38 (5). A selector switch comprises a structure in the form of a helix, supporting a set of contacts adjacent the inner edges thereof, the structure consisting of a number of separate segmental panels skewed so that they can be assembled with their ends abutting to form the helix. The skewed panels 1 carry printed circuit elements 21 whose ends form fixed contacts 22. Further fixed contacts (Fig. 5, not shown), formed on the reverse side of the panels 1 are arranged to be selectively connected to the fixed contacts 22 by a moving contact 28, 29 mounted on a member 26 which is arranged for rotary movement with and longitudinal movement along a spindle 27. The member 26 is linked with the operating spindle 27 by means of rod 31 carried by plates 32 locked to the spindle 27, the rod and spindle both being located in a slot 30 in the member 26. A second rotary member 35 is arranged to contact further fixed contacts on a flat panel 20. These contacts may be arranged to interconnect the contacts on the reverse sides of panels 1 in any desired manner or in the event that the switch is operated by an electric motor they may be used to control the motor. In a second embodiment the panels 1 are replaced by solid units 45 (Fig. 11), sheet-metal fixed contacts being gripped in slots 44 between consecutive units. The switch may be modified to use normally closed contacts (Fig. 7, not shown). The segmental members 1, 45 may comprise a full circle (as shown) or less.
