Abstract

919,512. Ingot moulds. OGLEBAY NORTON CO. July 26, 1961 [Sept. 22, 1960], No. 27049/61. Class 83 (1). A hot top comprises a metal casing 10, 11 lined with a porous, fragile heat-insulating firebrick 21 faced with a preformed protective unit comprising a hard non-fragile self-sustaining refractory layer 25 supporting an integrated exothermic facing layer 26. The exothermic layer may include sources of C, such as coke breeze, coal, tar, graphite, sources of Si such as ferrosilicon, sources of Al such as dross, and other substances such as straw, oats or rice. A slurry of sea-coal or the like may be applied between the insert and the firebrick 21. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 708,599 and 776,290.
