Abstract
919,346. Elevated railways. MARRYAT & PLACE Ltd. Oct. 12, 1959 [Oct. 10, 1958], No. 32475/58. Class 104 (2). An overhead suspension system by which a suspended article can be shifted to one of a number of positions within a given area comprises two sets of tracks, the tracks of one set consisting of track members arranged to form longitudinal slots forming front guideways to receive a carriage or carriages mounting the article to be suspended and the tracks of the second set being disposed above and at an angle to those of the first set forming second guideways supporting an auxiliary carriage or carriages from which the first mentioned carriage or carriages can be suspended during transfer from one first guideway to another. The guideways may be formed of pairs of Z- section girders T, Fig. 1, supported by straps from suspension rods secured to the ceiling. Sliders 10 on the guideways support carriages 11 from which an article e.g. a lighting device for use in television studios can be suspended by cables 15. The sliders have rollers 21 on the underside which are a clearance fit between the girder T. In a modification, the guideways are formed of pairs of steel tubes T2, Fig. 5, on the upper surface of which carriages 34 having support rollers 34<SP>1</SP> and guide rollers 33 run. The carriages may be transferred from one guideway to another by means of an auxiliary carriage 40 running on the flanges of a joist 38 which also supports the tubes T2. The carriage 40 has an arm 42 engaging a hole 45 in the carriage 34 so that this can be lifted from the guideway by means of a hand lever 46.
