Abstract

919,253. Artificial feet. NADER, H. O. M. Oct. 9, 1961 [Jan. 18, 1961], No. 36226/61. Class 81 (2). An artificial foot having a rigid ankle comprises a keel member 10, preferably rigid, and an upper foot portion 13 of tough, resilient material overlying at least the forward portion and sides of the keel and extending beyond the forward end thereof, to form a toe portion 40. This is preferably reinforced by a fabric layer 34. A sole portion 41 of resilient material, having less density than the portion 13, extends from the front end of the upper foot portion to the rear of the heel, where a wedge-shaped resilient heel portion 44 is inserted between the sole and the keel, the portion 44 being of material of less density than the sole. The various parts are bonded together and the adhesion of the upper foot portion 13 to the keel 10 may be enhanced by the provision of a recessed keyway 32. In the form described, the keel 10 and ankle portion 14 are made of wood and are secured together by a bolt 26 passing upwards through the foot into a threaded sleeve 18, the hole in the foot being subsequently closed with a resilient plug 50.
