Abstract

1,134,045. Artificial limbs. J. E. HANGER & CO. Ltd. 15 March, 1966, No. 11255/66. Heading A5R. An artificial foot 4 attached to an ankle part 1 so as to pivot about a bearing 10, and carrying on plates 5 a heel part 9 able to pivot about a bearing 8, is provided with members 11, 12 of an elastic material which resist flexure between the foot and the ankle part and between the heel part and the foot. The movement of the foot is limited by a stop 13 and the foot is formed in two parts 4, 14 hinged together and separated by an insert 61 of rubber. The plates 5 comprise two spaced apart plates secured in the foot 4 and carry the bearings 8, 10. Operating rods 17, 18 to actuate a hydraulically controlled knee joint (not described) are provided. In an alternative embodiment (Figure 2, not shown) the members 11, 12 are formed as a single member.
