Abstract

A reactive filler and trowelling composition comprises a mixture of: (a) one or more polymerizable compounds, such as at least one unsaturated polyester resin formed of alcohols, e.g. glycol, hexanediol, and acids, e.g. fumaric, maleic, adipic or phthalic acids, and at least one acrylic, methacrylic or ethacrylic acid ester, e.g. methyl/butyl/allyl methacrylate; (b) a catalyst, such as a Redox system consisting of peroxide compounds, e.g. benzoyl, and tertiary amines and/or a -amino and/or a -hydroxy sulphones; (c) inorganic fillers, such as up to 80% by weight barium sulphate and ground shale with or without dispersed metal oxides; and (d) one or more non-volatile hydrophilic substances, such as 5-50% by weight based on the polymerizable compounds of polyvinyl methyl ether, polyethylene oxide preferably bonded to a higher fatty acid, e.g. stearic or oleic acid, and/or polyvinyl alcohol. Other compounds may be included, e.g. vinyl acetate or toluene, polyvinyl acetate or chloride, styrene, triallyl cyanurate, keytone-aldehyde resin, diisopropylol-p-toluidine, triethanolamine-monostearic acid ester, tributylphenol, hydroquinone and paraffin.
