[Also in Groups XIII and XXX] As shown in Fig. 3, the sprocket wheel 21 of an endless chain conveyer is stepped by a pawl 39 engaging spaced studs 36 on the sprocket and pivoted above its centre of gravity on a carriage 38 reciprocated in guides 37 by a pneumatic jack 46. A stop 42 limits the movement of the paw] in the direction in which it engages the studs. As shown in Fig. 13, a sprocket shaft 144 carries fixedly a disc 153 having spaced studs 154 engaged by a pawl 158 pivoted at 157 to a frame 156 freely rotatable on shaft 144. Frame 156 is oscillated to advance the pawl into engagement with the studs by a pneumatic jack 163 pivoted thereto at 161. Pawl 158 rests on a limit stop 159. In both forms, reverse motion of the conveyers is prevented by the inertia of the machinery.
