Abstract

952,816. Rollerway conveyers. ALVEY-FERGUSON CO. Aug. 14, 1962 [Aug. 23, 1961], No. 31102/62. Heading B8A. A rollerway conveyer having rollers 13 is formed with two sections A and B so that packages D are received by section A and passed to the left on to section B and there retained by stop 5. Section A has its rollers constantly driven while section B has its rollers intermittently driven. The driving unit for the rollers is belt 20 driven by motor 24. The belt is provided at intervals with pads 30. Rollers 13 of section a are driven by the engagement of the belt 20 with intermediate rollers 15A which engage and drive the rollers 13. On the other hand the rollers 13 of section B are driven by the engagement of pads 30 of the belt 20 with intermediate rollers 15B which engage and rotate rollers 13. Thus rollers 15A and 15B are so positioned as to engage respectively the edges of belt 20 and the centrally positioned pads 30. In this way, packages D are received by section A and speedily transferred to section B while those in section B are displaced towards the stop 5 but in this position due to the drive being intermittent, the force exerted on the packages in this position is diminished.
