Abstract

918,357. Bottling. PRECISION VALVE CORPORATION. July 6, 1961 [Aug. 4, 1960], No. 24421/61. Class 125(2). A machine 28 for pressure charging aerosol containers with a propellant, in which each container has a manually operable valve with a push-button attached, comprises an adapter with an upper portion 11 secured to the charging nozzle 27 of the machine, and a lower portion 10 secured in an axially slidable manner to a cylindrical extension 17 of the upper portion by studs 32 surrounded by compression springs 33. A gasket 16 is located between surfaces 15 and 18 of the portions and, when the assembly is urged downwardly so that the portion 10 engages a container rim 3, the gasket is squeezed against a boss 5 of the container to provide an hermetically sealed chamber 31 housing the push-button 7 and valve stem. Continued downward movement of the portion 11 causes the lower end of a plug 25 in the adapter to depress the push-button and thereby open the container valve, whereupon gaseous or liquid propellant is admitted to the nozzle 27 and flows to the chamber 31 via passages 29, 30 and channels 22. The propellant then passes into the container via the discharge orifice 9 and expansion chamber 8 of the push-button and the valve stem. When charging is completed the assembly is raised allowing the container valve to close.
