Abstract
918,171. Magnetizing apparatus. SMITH & SONS (ENGLAND) Ltd., S. March 21, 1961 [March 25, 1960], No. 10605/60. Class 35. A method of producing peripheral poles on a barium ferrite disc (Fig. 11) comprises two operations, firstly subjecting the disc to a strong axiallyapplied field (Figs. 1-4, not shown) to polarize the disc faces (with the exception of the extreme rim) and secondly subjecting the periphery of the disc to a strong radially applied field to produce the required number of peripheral poles (Fig. 5) and (Figs. 6-10, not shown). This radial field is applied by the arrangement shown in Fig. 5 which comprises pole members 14, 15 each having a plurality of extending fingers 22, 19 which converge towards the common axis of the pole members 14, 15, to terminate in pole faces 20 which lie on a cylindrical surface, coaxial with the common axis, and of a diameter slightly greater than that of the disc 5. Enclosed by each set of fingers 22, 19 is a brass disc 24, 21. The sets of fingers 22, 19, interlock around the periphery of the disc 5 when the polepieces 14, 15 are brought together.
