Abstract
918,120. Refrigerators. STAL REFRIGERATION A.B. Dec. 1, 1961 [Feb. 3, 1961], No. 43093/61. Class 29. In a refrigeration installation comprising a surge drum 1 mounted above a multi-pass cooler 3 which consists of a cylinder containing a refrigerant liquid and tubes 4 carrying a heat transfer medium, the surge drum is connected to the lower portion of the multi-pass cooler by means of a passage which follows the inner wall of the latter. As shown, the surge drum 1 and multipass cooler 3 are connected by two vertical tubes 5 and 6, Fig. 1, extending into the interior of the drum, and a third tube 2 at the vertical centre line of the assembly. An interior passage 8, Fig. 2, is formed in the cooler by an open bottomed cylindrical wall 9 and end walls 9a. In operation, the refrigerant in contact with the tubes 4 evaporates, and a mixture of gas and liquid refrigerant passes through the tubes 5, 6 from the cooler to the surge drum, where the liquid separates out and returns to the lower part of the cooler via the tube 2 and passage 8. The gas passes out to a compressor (not shown) through a tube 7.
