Abstract
917,577. Explosive compositions. NORSK SPRAENGSTOFINDUSTRI A.S. April 10, 1961 [April 11, 1960], No. 12837/61. Class 9 (2). A granular explosive is obtained by intimately mixing together ammonium nitrate and a combustible oil, compressing the mixture between rotating rollers so as to form coherent flakes and then crushing the flakes. The nitrate is ground so that at least 50% passes through a 35 mesh per inch screen and the oil may be present in an amount of 3-6% based on the weight of ammonium nitrate. The rollers may be heated to 50-70‹ C. and the nitrate reduced to <SP>3</SP>/ 32 inch in thickness. The oil may be diesel oil or fuel oil and wood flour may be added.
