Abstract

In a process for the regeneration of a deactivated hydrocracking catalyst comprising an oxidized and reduced composite of a solid support having cracking activity and at least one added component selected from the metals and oxides of the metals of Groups VIa and VIII of the Periodic Table, the oxidation having been effected for a period of from 1-8 hours at 700 DEG -760 DEG C. prior to reduction at elevated temperature in the presence of hydrogen, the deactivated catalyst is heated in a combustion supported atmosphere at a temperature of 480 DEG -595 DEG C. until substantially all carbon and nitrogen is removed from the surface of the catalyst and thereafter the catalyst is reoxidized at 700 DEG -760 DEG C. Preferably after reoxidation, the catalyst is subjected to reduction in the presence of hydrogen at an elevated temperature which is lower than the oxidizing temperature, e.g. at 425 DEG C. Examples are given. A catalyst support other than those mentioned in Specification 917,469 is Al2O3-BrO3.
