The surface of a sheet or panel, e.g. of paper, textile, or glass, or other mineral fibre impregnated with a setting resin such as phenol/ melamine-formaldehyde resin, is protected by applying a transparent hydrophilic foil, e.g. of cellulose hydrate, secured by a non-setting adhesive enabling the foil to be removed by wetting. The adhesive may be an aqueous solution of gelatine or an aqueous dispersion of polyvinyl chloride or acetate; in the latter case adhesive residue is removed by use of a solvent.
