Abstract

917,344. Ice-making. BRODRENE GRAM A.S. Nov. 3, 1961 [Nov. 4, 1960], No. 39501/61. Class 29. In a machine for making multi-colour ice lollies or similar frozen products, in which each mould is filled successively with layers of different liquids by a tube introduced into the mould, the second and subsequent (if any) layers are introduced via a flow obstructing member located approximately on a level with the surface of the preceding layer. This member directs the liquid to flow in a substantially horizontal direction so as to avoid mixing with the preceding layer. As shown, the member comprises a V-strap 6 on the end of the filling tube 5. After the first liquid layer 1 has been introduced into the mould 4, the tube is positioned as shown in Fig. 1 with the straps 6 in contact with or immediately adjacent the wall of the mould, whereby the second liquid 2 flows from the tube down the wall of the mould and is deflected by the straps so as to flow over the surface of the liquid 1. After the second liquid has been introduced, the tube is displaced to the position shown in Fig. 2 for introduction of a third liquid 3, Fig. 3. The tube may have two diametrically opposed ends each provided with a strap. Alternatively, the flow obstructing member may comprise horizontal step portions on the edge of the mould (Figs. 10-12, not shown) or may be formed by partial freezing of the liquid in the preceding layer followed by removal by a suction tube 7, Fig. 6, of a portion of the liquid so as to form a circumferential frozen edge 8.
