917,270. Veneers; treating wood. GENERAL FLOORING CO. Inc. Dec. 16, 1960, No. 43360/60. Class 145. A wood member or veneer 24 is stretched and stress-relieved by passing it one or more times between rollers 12 and 18, the larger roller 18 being preferably formed of a rubber product and the veneer being fed by belts 20 and 22. Voids 32, 34 are thus created by partial separation of the fibres from one or both surfaces to about the middle of the thickness and the veneer is expanded in length beyond the length which it would have if completely saturated with water, so that the voids provide ample space for swelling of the fibres and prevent buckling in use.
