Abstract

A wear resistant anti-skid coating for application by dipping to the upper surface of metal traffic bearing gratings comprises a first coat of a mixture of epoxy resin having an epoxide equivalent in the range 140-280 and a viscosity of between 40-160 poises at 25 DEG C., a catalyst, e.g. diethylene triamine and synthetic or natural rubber in granular or latex foam. When the first coat has cured, a second coat of a mixture of resin, catalyst and sand is applied and the coated surface of the grating may then be pressed into a bed of granular material, e.g. aluminium oxide. The material is partially embedded in the coating and is bonded therein as it cures. Alternatively, the first coat may be omitted or replaced by an application of epoxy resin paint.
