Abstract

917,112. Agitating liquids. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. March 9, 1961 [March 18, 1960], No. 9584/60. Class 86. A stirring mechanism comprises a pair of stirring blades 4 mounted on a horizontal shaft 3 rotated by gears 12, 16 and carried in a stirrup 14 which is itself rotated about the axis of a vertical shaft 7. The blades 4 are generally helically twisted, see Fig. 2, and their tips are turned over in the direction of rotation 9. In another embodiment, Fig (3 not shown) the bevel gears and vertical shaft are enclosed by a rotatable pressurized and/or lubricant filled casing suspended from the mixing vessel coverplate.
