Abstract

917,018. Inductances. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Aug. 17, 1961 [Sept. 9,1960], No. 31133/60. Addition to 713,028. Class 38 (2). A variable saturable inductance having an A.C. winding arrangement which does not induce A.C. of fundamental frequency in the D.C. saturating winding, and an additional magnetic core effectively coupled with the D.C. winding only, as described in the parent Specification, comprises three laminated shell type cones 1, 2 and 3 (Fig. 3) the additional core 3 being linked with the D.C. winding 7 but not with the two oppositelyconnected A.C. coils 5, 6. In a further embodiment there is a suppression coil 8, on the limb 4 of core 3, and connected in series addition to the D.C. winding 7. The cores may be formed from E, I, T or U shaped laminations or they may be " gate-leg " type. The purpose of the additional core is to increase the impedance of the D.C. winding to alternating currents of even harmonic frequency and the provision of the suppression coil further increases this impedance.
