Abstract
916,819. Finishing yarns. KUNSTSEIDEN A.G. Feb. 18, 1959 [Feb. 18, 1958], No. 5635/59. Class 120 (3). In a process for the production of high-bulk yarns in which a gaseous medium flowing through a nozzle impinges on a yarn of continuous synthetic thermoplastic filaments, a hot gas or vapour, the temperature of which is in the softening and setting range of the filaments, is used as the medium and therefore acts simultaneously as both softening and setting agent. As shown in Fig. 1, a multifilament yarn 1 e.g. of nylon, is withdrawn from a bobbin 2 and fed between rollers 3 to a blowing nozzle 4 into which the hot gas, e.g. air, is introduced at 5. Yarn and gas are ejected at 6 and the yarn is abruptly removed (to relieve tension thereon) at 7 from the discharging gas jet by rollers 8 through which the yarn is fed to winding apparatus 9 driven by roller 10. The nozzle 4, Figs. 2 and 3, comprises a gas supply duct 12 opening, at 14, into a duct 11 in off-set manner so that yarn is whirled in one direction or the other by the gas stream. In another nozzle, Fig. 4, the gas passes straight through a duct 17 in member 16 and yarn 1, from a supply duct 18 opening slightly eccentrically into duct 17, is entrained by the gas stream and intensely whirled and the filaments spread thereby in a chamber 22, before ejection through an opening 20.
