Abstract
916,738. Treating mould and core materials. BRITISH STEEL CASTINGS RESEARCH ASSOCIATION, and YOUNG, D. K. Nov. 2, 1961 [Aug. 10, 1960], No. 27629/60. Class 83 (1). Foundry sand treatment apparatus comprises a deep elongated chamber 8, a gravity-fed sand inlet 15 to the bottom of the chamber, an open helix 9 rotatably supported from the top of the chamber and rotated by means 11, and a side outlet 17 opposite the top of the helix. Clay particles are removed by abrasion from the sand grains during lifting by the helix and the grains and particles are flung through the outlet 17 into the separation chamber 16. Air is introduced through a side opening 21 and, or alternatively an inlet 27 and extracted through an outlet 22 to remove the clay particles, the cleaned sand grains falling to a discharge opening 24 or alternatively to the hopper 14 for recycling. The apparatus is pivoted on a base 1 and may be adjusted to any desired angle by strut 6. The outlet 17 may lead to a vortex separator instead of to the chamber 16.
