Abstract

916,304. Moulding breakfast cereal by roller mills. ALLIS-CHALMERS MANUFACTURING CO. April 26, 1961 [May 4, 1960], No. 15148/61. Class 87(2). Material which contains a fluid is made into sheets or flakes by feeding said material under pressure between a pair of compacting rolls 10, 11. A vent 20 with its mouth 31 adjacent said rolls is provided within the path of flow of the material to provide an escape passage 21 for the entrained fluid. The vent in the form of a hollow vane 20 may be fashioned from a single rectangular sheet 22 of metal bent in half to the shape shown in Fig. 1. End pieces 23 enclose the open ends of the vane and comprise a circular flange portion 24 and tapered portion 25. An exit opening 26 is provided in the flanged portion 24 to which opening a vacuum pump may be connected to assist the escape of the fluid. The mouth 31 of the vent may be varied in size according to the fluid content by means of adjusting screws.
