Abstract

A printing ink suitable for printing indicia on photographic backing paper consists of a diluted dispersion of carbon black in an ammoniacal solution of a maleic anhydride-styrene copolymer of the following percentage composition by weight: .Carbon black.5 to 15 .Maleic anhydride-styrene copolymer.3 to 5 .Lignin sulphonic acid dispersing agent.0,74 .28% aqueous solution of ammonia.1,15 .Sodium hydroxide.0,05 .Solvent to make up to.100 wherein the solvent is a mixture of ethanol and water in a ratio between 6:4 and 4:6 parts by weight and the copolymer is one formed by heating substantially equimolar proportions of styrene or styrenes having one or more alkyl substituents on the benzene ring, e.g. the o, m, p methyl or ethyl derivatives or the 2:4-dimethyl derivative, and maleic anhydride, maleic acid, C1 to C8 alkyl half esters of maleic acid, or mixtures thereof.
