Abstract
Compounds of the formula <FORM:0915382/IV (b)/1> where R1 is alkyl, R2 and R3 are aliphatic or aromatic carboxylic acyl radicals, esterified carboxylic acid groups or cyano radicals, at least one being cyano, and Z makes up an indoline or 1,2-dihydroquinoline ring system, are prepared by reacting a compound <FORM:0915382/IV (b)/2> in the presence of a Friedel-Crafts catalyst with an acylating agent, which term comprises carboxylic acid anhydrides and halides, and chlorocarbonic acid derivatives such as the ethyl ester, cyanogen chloride and phosgene. Examples prepare the following, which are claimed as novel: indolines: 1,3,3-trimethyl-2-dicyanomethylene-, 1,3,3,5-tetramethyl-2-dicyano methylene-, 1,3,3,-trimethyl-5-methoxy-2-dicyanomethylene-, 1,3,3-trimethyl-5-methoxy-2-(carbethoxy-cyanomethylene)-, 1,3,3-trimethyl-2(carbethoxy-cyanomethylene)-, 1,3,3,5-tetramethyl-2-(acetyl-cyanomethylene)-, 1,3,3-trimethyl-2-(acetyl-cyanomethylene)-, and 1,3,3-trimethyl-5 - methoxy - 2 - (acetyl-cyanomethylene)indolines; and 1-methyl-2-dicyanomethylene-1,2-dihydroquinoline.
