[Also in Group XXXII] in a diesel locomotive driving cab having side walls at the extreme sides of the locomotive, a central console 9 carries duplicated driving controls operable by a driver standing or sitting against either side wall. The driving controls comprise throttle levers 14, brake levers 15 and horn valves 16, each operated by transverse movement, preselective reverse levers 17 and levers 18 controlling sanding of the rails, each operated by longitudinal movement in the required direction of travel. Pedals may replace the levers 18. A speedometer, a tachometer, and temperature and pressure gauges are mounted on the portion of the console 9. Folding seats 11 attached to the side walls are positioned so that the driver's eye level is constant whether sitting or standing. Sliding windows are provided in the upper parts of the side walls and sliding doors 10 are provided in the rear wall of the cab or diagonally opposite in front and rear walls. The locomotive has a diesel engine coupled by a clutch, a hydraulic torque converter, a reversing gear-box and driving chains to the wheels. In a locomotive having power units at each end the driving cab may be arranged symmetrically with the controls on a central pedestal.
