Abstract

1337586 Adjustable aircraft seats TELEFLEX Ltd 1 June 1971 [1 June 1970] 26393/70 Heading A4J The seat base 11 of an aircraft seat is supported on a three rail curved track by two laterally spaced rear bogies (10) Figs.1 and 2 (not shown) running in side rails (12) and a central forward drive bogie 30 running in a traction and locking centre rail 13 which co-operates with driving and locking means on the central bogie which is mounted for swivelling movement about an axis 41 of a clutch unit. The central bogie has two offset drive pinions (45) Fig.8 (not shown) which engage with the teeth of a rack bar 46 secured along the top of the centre rail 13. A withdrawable locking member 48 which is provided between the two pinions is connected to a toggletype linkage 50 for shifting. The member into and out of engagement with the teeth of the rack bar. The clutch unit Figs.3-5 (not shown) for transmitting power drive to the central bogie 30 includes a slipping friction clutch which enables speed run down of a drive motor after the seat is locked in position and includes means for relieving the clutch pressure automatically thereby disengaging the drive through the clutch when a sudden rise in clutch torque indicates the output shaft of the clutch unit has locked. The clutch unit may be manually disengaged for manual adjustment of the seat if the power drive fails.
