Abstract
915,331. Nuclear fuel elements. BABCOCK & WILCOX Ltd. May 17, 1961 [May 17, 1960; Nov. 8, 1960], Nos. 17443/60 and 38340/60. Class 39 (4). [Also in Group XXII] A nuclear fuel element can has fins 2 divided lengthwise into an even number of sets, fins in adjacent sets being of opposite hand and joined at their ends to form a series of zig-zag channels around the can, and opposite ends of each circumferential channel being displaced axially so that the channels are of helical form. The individual fin portions may be helical or one end of each portion may be more nearly parallel to the axis of the can than the other (Fig. 6, not shown). The displacement may be produced by varying the helix angle or the axial or circumferential length of the channels in different sets. The bottom of each channel may be concavely curved along its length.
