Abstract
915,047. Mixing fluids. PINTO, U. April 12, 1960 [July 15, 1959], No. 13059/60. Class 86. A mixing and emulsifying device for immersion in a body of material comprises a motor 16 secured by rods 3 to the housing 5 of a mixing head having a lower, frusto-conical, portion and an upper cylindrical portion. An impeller 7 having radial vanes 7<SP>1</SP> rotates with clearance fit in the frusto-conical portion of the housing 5 ; the vanes 7<SP>1</SP> are curved outwardly and forwardly in relation to the direction of rotation and there are similar but fixed and oppositely curved vanes 4<SP>1</SP>, 411 in the upper, cylindrical portion of the housing. Rotation of the impeller causes the material to be drawn in to the bottom of the housing and ejected at the top, setting up in the container a circulation which is aided by the adjustable deflector 11. The impeller shaft 1, 14 is adjustable for length to adjust the clearance of the impeller in the housing. The clearance between the top of the impeller and the underside of the fixed vanes may be controlled by making the latter a separate unit screwed into the housing 5, see Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown).
