Abstract

914,468. Delivering sheets. GIFFORD, G. W. Sept. 11, 1961 [Sept. 28, 1960], No. 33259/60. Class 100 (1). A delivery enclosure for a sheet-fed printing machine is connected to or is adapted to be connected to means for applying suction to its interior so as to facilitate the fall of the sheets into the enclosure from a position above the enclosure. As shown, sheets 15 are delivered from a rotary printing machine by a gripper chain 13 to an enclosure 10 formed by four vertical side members 14. The member 14 shown on the right of the Figure is hollow and is perforated on its inner face. This member is connected by a pipe 16 to a suction pump 17 so that air is drawn from the interior of the enclosure 10. The fall of the sheets into the enclosure may be assisted by downward directed blasts of air which impinge on the upper sides of the sheets. One member of each parallel pair of side members 14 may be capable of a short reciprocatory movement in a direction perpendicular to its length in order to jog the stacked sheets.
