Abstract

914,182. Hydraulic transmission of power. STAHLWERKE BRUNINGHAUS G.m.b.H. Oct. 23, 1959 [Oct. 23, 1958], No. 35998/59. Class 69 (2). A method of controlling a hydrostatic drive for a vehicle, lifting and hoisting mechanism and the like, comprising a pump 1, driven by a prime mover 25, and one or more hydraulic motors 2, the pump and motor being of the axial piston-type and adjustable by a control pressure separate from the working pressure, consists in adjusting the pump and the motor or motors simultaneously by the control pressure which is automatically varied through adjusting means responsive to one or more working values of the drive, such as rotational speed, torque, current absorption of the motor driving the pump, or the like. The primer mover 25, which may be a diesel engine, also drives an auxiliary pump 17 which supplies fluid to one side 3c of a piston 3, the other side 3b of which is connected to the adjustment member of the motor and subjected to the pressure in a line 5 connecting the pump 1 to the motor 2. The pressure from the auxiliary pump is controlled by a spring-loaded relief valve 18, the tension in the spring being varied by a foot pedal 19 or the like. The pressure from the auxiliary pump is also supplied to one face of the piston 22, a pressure-responsive device movable against a spring 24 to control the delivery from the pump 1. The pressure in the line 20 from the auxiliary pump, in addition to being controlled by the relief valve 18, may be controlled by an additional relief valve 27 controlled by a governor 26 driven by the prime-mover. The governor 26 and a governor controlling the prime mover may control the relief valve and prime mover through cams having a shape corresponding to the torque and consumption curve of the prime mover. Means may be provided for shutting-off and reversing the circulation of liquid to reverse the direction of rotation of the motor. If the prime mover is electric, the control is effected by current relay magnets.
