Abstract

914,109. Shaft couplings. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO. Ltd. Aug. 1, 1961 [Dec. 8, 1960], No. 42275/60. Class 80(2). [Also in Groups XXII and XXV] A coupling for connecting large rotating assemblies such as radar aerials comprises substantially axial bolts 3 each screwing into one member 1 and passing through an eccentric bore 9 in a seating member 8 having a spherical surface seating in a corresponding eccentricallydisposed spherical cavity 6 in a seat 5 which is rotatably adjustable in a member 2 which is to be coupled to the member 1. On assembly the bolt 3 is screwed up lightly, the seating and seat members 8, 5 are rotated by pin spanners fitting in pin holes 8<SP>11,</SP> 5<SP>11</SP> in the members until the spherical surfaces seat properly and then the bolt is tightened. The resulting coupling is without play and practically without stress even if the members 1, 2 are considerably misaligned.
