Abstract

914,093. Moulding rubber or thermoplastic articles. SVIT NARODNI PODNIK. April 13, 1959 [April 12, 1958], No. 12356/59. Class 87(2). Articles, e.g. soles and heels, are moulded from rubber or thermoplastic material by compressing the material in a three-part mould under the action of pressing mandrels, air being driven out through microscopic apertures provided on the contacting faces of the mould parts, the top part of the mould then being opened and the finished article pushed out of the bottom and intermediate parts by the pressing mandrels and seized by fork members and pushed into a magazine. The mould comprises a top part 24 slidably engaged in guideways 23 under a tiltable top heating plate 22, an intermediate part 19 connected with a bottom part 17 which is slidably engaged in guideways 15 on a bottom heating plate 14, a piston-controlled lifting table 5 fixed to the plate 14, and piston-controlled pressing mandrels 8 passing through this plate. With the lifting table 5 and pressing mandrels 8 in their lower position and the top heating plate 22 tilted outwards, a rough blank of the raw material is placed on a relief 20 provided in the intermediate part 19 and the mould closed. The pressing mandrels 8 are then raised into the material until this completely fills the closed mould. In this condition the material, if rubber, is vulcanized. After opening the mould the pressing mandrels 8 are raised to push the finished moulding 40 out of the intermediate and bottom parts of the mould and a fork member 35 is moved into position beneath the moulding so as to catch them when the mandrels are withdrawn. Finally the fork member 35 is moved clear of the mould and the machine is ready for receiving new blanks. The mouldings 40 remain on the fork member but when the latter is again returned to the mould, they are pushed by a spring-loaded pivoted ledge 39 into a magazine 41.
