Abstract

913,696. Accelerometers. INERTIA SWITCH Ltd. May 19, 1961 [May 19, 1960], No. 17693/60. Class 106 (3). An accelerometer comprises a block 1 provided with a plurality of channels 11, 12, 13, 14, each differently inclined and each leading into a pocket 15, a steel ball 6 free to move in each channel between positions of rest defined by the bottom of the channel and the pocket and visible from outside in at least one of its extreme positions and hooks 3 for mounting the block on a vehicle so that upon acceleration thereof one or more of the balls 6 will ride up its slope and fall into its pocket, thus giving an indication of the acceleration. A generally rectangular block 1 is supported by two clips 3 being adjustably secured thereto by knurled screws 4 in tapped holes passing through slots 8 in the clips 3 whereby the apparatus may be levelled with the aid of another steel ball 5 in an arcuate slot 9 and a mark 10. The block may be circular and supported by one clip. The accelerometer may be used for brake testing, the different pockets 15a being suitably labelled to indicate the efficiency of the brakes.
