Abstract
913,679. Discharging endless conveyers. SCHMERMUND, A. Jan. 6, 1961 [Jan. 29, 1960], No. 656/61. Class 78 (1). [Also in Group XVII] Defective packets in a line being forwarded to assembly means &c. are rejected from the line and replaced by other packets from a reserve supply. The detecting means is conventional and is not described. In one embodiment, packets are forwarded by a conveyer 50 to a stacking channel 45 into which they are thrust by an arm 47. A pusher 68 raises the stack so that the uppermost packet may be thrust by a further pusher 56 on to a member 43. The member 43 forces it into an assembly device 36 to form a group 52 and the group 52 is transferred to a further channel 42. If a faulty packet is detected prior to its entering the channel 45, it is still fed on to the pusher 68 but the latter is prevented from operatiug by solenoid means 63, 65, 101. The next packet fed in by the arm 47 ejects the faulty packet on to a shoot 53 and at the same time a pusher 38 thrusts a reserve packet from the base of a magazine 61 on to the top of the stack in the channel 45. The pusher 56 transfers it to the member 43 and operation continues normally. Alternatively the spare packet may be fed directly on to the member 43 (not shown). In another embodiment (Figs. 1-5, not shown), the faulty packet is thrust directly off a line on a conveyer, by a reserve packet.
