913,355. Roofing. MANDOVAL Ltd., and AMALGAMATED ASPHALTE CO'S. Ltd. June 6, 1961 [June 10, 1960], No. 20553/60. Class 20 (4). A roof is covered with a screed comprising a mixture of bitumen and a lightweight material such as exfoliated vermiculite, foamed slag, pumice stone, sintered fly ash, expanded shale &c., this screed being covered with a layer of mastic asphalt without the use of an isolating membrane. If necessary, before application of the mastic asphalt, the screed may be sealed with a film of bitumen or rock asphalt, or alternatively a first coat of mastic asphalt may be employed to seal the screed prior to the application of one or more further layers of mastic asphalt. The screed may also include as a filler, powdered rock asphalt, Bentonite, Portland cement, Kaolin, limestone, fly ash or fibrous material such as asbestos. Lightcoloured chippings may be embedded in the surface of the mastic asphalt.
