Abstract

913,276. Tyre-building drums. AKRON STANDARD MOLD CO. Jan. 13, 1961, No. 1554/61. Class 144 (1). A radially-collapsible tyre-building drum 10 comprises two annular segmented wing members 19, 20 releasably clamped to a correspondingly segmented annular support member 18 whereby they are adjustable axially of the support member to vary the axial width of the drum, the space between the adjacent edges of the wing members being filled by a segmented annular spacer 35 of appropriate axial width to preserve a continuous building surface, and each wing member segment having a circumferentially spaced pair of T-section slots 25, and an intervening channel 26, cut axially in its underside to co-operate respectively with headed releasable clamp bolts 30, 32 and guidepins 31 carried by the associated support member segment. The spacer 35 is located by an inner peripheral channel 38 engaged over a central circumferential rib 37 on the support member 18, dowels 34 upstanding from the rib 37 engaging in apertures in the channel base. Retention of the spacer is effected by flanges on the adjacent edges of the wing members overlapping complementary flanges 39 on the sides of the spacer.
