Abstract
1,041,881. Bearings. SUMO PUMPS Ltd. Feb. 4, 1965 [Feb. 13, 1964], No. 6151/64. Heading F2A. A thrust bearing comprises tiltable pads 8 alternating with balancing members 4, both pads and balancing members being arranged in circular series around an annular supporting member 1, each pad having a projecting boss 9 in the form of half of a frustum of a radially disposed cone bearing on the two adjacent balancing members so that on uneven loading of the pad series the balancing members are displaced circumferentially. The balancing members have bevelled ends, and are disposed in an annular groove 3 in member 1, one balancing member being fixed to member 1 by a stud 6. The pads are attached to member 1 by hooks 10 engaging in an. annular groove 11 in the member 1. In an alternative attachment, the pads have studs movable in cavities in the member 1 and radial ribs in recesses in the members 4.
