912,999. Laminates. HOPKINS, J. R., and McNULTY, F. E. Dec. 6, 1960 [Dec. 7, 1959], No. 41888,/60. Class 140. [Also in Group XXVIII] A protective coating wrapped around a metal pipe comprises a laminated sheet having a thin outer layer 12 of thermoplastic material, e.g. polythene or polyvinyl chloride, and a thicker inner layer 11 of bituminous material rendered adhesive by a primer applied to the pipe. The wrapping is stored in rolls with a strippable, silicone-treated, paper separating sheet 14 between the layers of the sheet. The bituminous layer may be reinforced, e.g. by woven glass fabric or mat or by parallel longitudinal glass strands which resist elongation of the wrapping during unrolling but which break to permit elongation during wrapping whereby the outer plastic layer compresses the inner layer to force it into any crevices on the pipe.
