Abstract

[Also in Group VI] The sides of a vessel 1 to contain cooking oil are corrugated 1 to form upwardly directed channels which, with an inner lining 6, form flow paths 7 for the cooking oil so that, when the level of the latter is above the top of the lining 6 and the outside of the corrugations are heated by burning gas or fuel oil, the cooking oil will rise in the flow paths causing a circulation of the oil. As shown, the bottom part 1a of the vessel 1 has a discharge cock 2 and the sides are surrounded by a sheet metal jacket 3 to form channels 8. Held spaced from lining 6 by bridge pieces 5, is an insert part 4 which can rest on part 1a, when only the upper part of the oil is heated, or can be supported in a raised position or removed entirely when all the oil is heated. A gas conduit 10 feeding an annular burner 9 is controlled by a manually-operated cock 11 and a solenoid valve 12. The hot gases produced pass through the channels 8 to channels 13 and 14 leading to a chimney. A plate 15 screens the bottom part la from burner 9 and fresh air enters through holes in a coverplate 16 beneath part 1a. A jacket 17 with a cavity 18 surrounds the vessel 1 and jacket 3 and the intervening space is filled with insulating material 23, e.g. stone, wood or tinfoil. A heat sensing member 21 is connected to a thermostat 22 which controls the solenoid valve 12.
