912,726. Parametric amplifiers. TELEFUNKEN G.m.b.H. March 22, 1961 [March 31, 1960], No. 10434/61. Class 40 (9). A transistor amplifier includes means for applying a pump frequency to vary the collector blocking layer capacity so as to produce parametric amplification. As shown, the signal is applied via a tuned input circuit 1 to the emitterbase circuit of the transistor 3, the output from the collector-emitter circuit being emitted via a tuned circuit 2. The pump frequency is applied across the collector base circuit and may be twice the signal frequency. If the pump frequency is different from this a circuit 5 tuned to the difference between the pump and signal frequencies must be provided. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the pump source is connected across the transistor output circuit. The circuit may also be used as a mixer, the output being taken at a frequency equal to the difference between the pump and signal frequencies.
