Abstract
912,637. Feeding articles in batches; rollerway conveyers. ROWNSONS CONVEYORS Ltd. June 3, 1960 [March 4, 1959], No. 7612/59. Class 78 (1). Packages from a first packaging machine are fed singly by endless slat conveyer F on to roller conveyer H which assembles them into a batch, the batch rolling down pivoted roller conveyer J to be discharged leftwards by endless belt B. Likewise, packages from a second packaging machine are fed singly by endless slat conveyer E on to roller conveyer G which assembles them into a batch, the batch being discharged on to the said endless belt B. These batches are fed alternately from the two packaging machines on to the belt B, the pivoting of roller conveyer J permitting the conveying of the lower batches therepast so that both sets of batches are discharged leftwards by belt B. Curved slat conveyer F (or E).-Slats 101 run on rollers 110 and are carried by chains 102, 103 trained round sprockets 105, 106 and 107, 108, chain 102 being longer than chain 103 to permit the slats to pass round the horizontal bend in the conveyer. Roller conveyer H (or G) (Fig. 4).-The rollers 1 are rotatably driven by belt 14, and are divided into three sets brought selectively into engagement with the belt, respectively, by shoes 21, 22, 23. Each shoe is pivoted so as to be pivotally raised into said engagement by its rod 32 operated by air piston 30, the rollers yielding upwards in the slots shown. The air pistons are operated in time-sequence by cams, the belt being driven continuously. Firstly, all three shoes are raised to drive all the rollers; then shoe 21 is lowered; then shoe 22 is lowered; and then shoe 23 is lowered. This delivers one batch and causes the following packages to pile up into a batch at K ready to be conveyed in the next cycle.
