Abstract
A container, e.g. a steel barrel 30, is provided with a lining of e.g. polythene by clamping the <PICT:0911646/III/1> barrel 30 to a plate 32, which can be rotated about two axes at right angles to each other, inserting a measured charge of thermoplastic powder, into the barrel through the neck 35 closing the neck with a plug 36, and then rotating the mould in an oven to cause the thermoplastic material to set against the container. In addition a third rotary motion may be imparted to the container by mounting it on rotary axes at its ends. A preformed collar 37 of the same material as the intended lining may be positioned in the barrel prior to moulding. The plug may have a bore 43 to allow compressed air to be introduced into the barrel to support the lining during cooling. The plug is provided with an asbestos cover 42 to prevent it reaching such a temperature that it melts the preformed piece 37. Knife edges 44 are formed on the plug to weaken the part 45, so that it may be removed easily after moulding.
