Abstract

A porous article, e.g. a filter, is formed by heating a powdered or granular thermoplastic synthetic resin, without the application of any external pressure or the use of a dissolving or swelling agent or a gas-generating agent. A metal or porcelain mould, which may have a hollow or solid core of the same material may be completely filled with the resin, sealed, and then heated to a temperature (120 DEG to 250 DEG C.) of two or three times its Martens heat resistance temperature. The mould, which may be electrically heated, may have a smaller coefficient of expansion than that of the resin. The resin may be polyvinyl chloride or a copolymer, polymethyl methacrylate or a superpolyamide or a copolymer, and it may contain a plasticizer. Specifications 514,870, 578,927 and 679,549 are referred to.ALSO:A porous article, e.g. a filter, is formed by heating a powdered or granular thermoplastic synthetic resin without the application of any external pressure or the use of a dissolving or swelling agent or a gas-generating agent.
