Abstract

911,422. Anchor-nuts. SPOKES, A. March 28, 1961, No. 11263/61. Class 89 (1). [Also in Group XXII] A nut, for securement in a hole 10 in sheet metal by driving, e.g. by pressing or hammering, so that the metal of the sheet is upset, has a shoulder 8 which pushes the metal of the sheet into tapered recesses between ribs 14 on an extension 7 of the nut. The ribs 14 may be formed by moulding, cutting or by pressure from a tool such as a knurling roll. The portion of the nut extension 7 between an end rim 9 and the shoulder 8 and in which the ribs 14 are formed, may be of reduced diameter initially so that the ribs are flush with the rim 9 as shown, but if the diameter is not reduced the ribs project radially beyond the rim, Fig. 5 (not shown).
