Abstract

910,167. Baling press; bundling articles. BATES BROS. (ENGINEERS) Ltd. Feb. 7, 1961 [Nov. 7, 1959], No. 33951/59. Class 94(1). A press for compressing and binding articles, e.g. stacks of cardboard carton blanks, comprises a support 9 and a press plate 4 each having channels for the passage of strapping; guide channels 14, 15 aligned with the channels in the support 9; guide channels 16 connecting the channels in the support 9 and press plate 4 and means 10, 12 for feeding strapping 11 through the channels. The press plate 4, lined with wood, is driven by a pneumatic motor 6 and moves on guide rods 2 carrying compression springs 7 to assist the return stroke. The support 9 comprises a set of freely rotatable rollers. The guide channel 16 is telescopic to allow for movement of the press plate 4. Strapping fed into the channels 14 by the driven rollers 12 mounted on the frame of the press emerge from the end of the channel in the press plate adjacent the channels 14 and may then be tensioned and secured about the article. The Provisional Specification describes the strapping feed means, 12, as being mounted on the press plate 4 along with its drive motor and also the use of two pairs of rollers driven at higher speed than the feed means 12 so as to keep the strapping in the channels taut.
